The BEST Activated Charcoal Bath Soak DIY recipe for treating body acne or detoxing
I have seen tons of recipes for DIY charcoal soaks and most of them are not safe and leave a big mess in your tub. Why?
If you do not use some form of soap in the recipe, you are either going to stain your bathtub or leave a black ring. After a relaxing bath, the last thing I want is a black ringed dirty tub to clean.
NEVER, ever use essential oils straight in bath water. They are oils and will sit on the top of the water. When you or a loved one dip themselves into the tub, the last thing you want is those oils hitting sensitive private parts! I could tell you a few stories but we won't go there. Just trust me on this one.
Could you dilute EO's in a vegetable oil? Yes, you could but you will still have a yucky, messy ring around your tub.
The options for surfactants I have listed are natural and readily available online for cheap. SLSA and SCI are powdered surfactants and are slightly more difficult to work with as they are fine powders and can be inhaled while working with them. (Most of us still have Covid masks. Use it if you decide to go this route.)
Other options include your favourite blend of EO's, milk or buttermilk powders, colloidal oatmeal (won't clog drain), yogurt powder, a variety of dried herbs such as lavender, holy basil... Just make sure you use a piece of cheesecloth or small porous bag that will contain the herbs or you will be cleaning up a messy tub.
Have fun! This recipe can be quick and easy or you can get creative with the base. It's up to you!
